Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Collaboration

The Reduce Reuse and Recycle (RRR) Collaboration has emerged from a series of discussions and working group meetings that have taken place over eight months, building on the momentum generated by the Reduce Reuse and Recycle event facilitated by SLCVO at Kyleakin Community Hall in October 2025.

The event highlighted both the breadth of circular economy activity already taking place across Skye and Lochalsh and the significant opportunities for greater collaboration between organisations. Download event report

Since then, local groups, social enterprises, community organisations and public sector partners have come together to explore how they can work more effectively as a collective. United by a shared commitment to reducing waste, increasing opportunities for reuse and repair, and strengthening the circular economy, the collaboration aims to build stronger partnerships, share knowledge and resources, and develop coordinated solutions that will benefit communities across Skye, Raasay and Lochalsh

The Overall Aim

  • To bring together Third Sector, Public Sector and Private Sector partners to work collaboratively towards reducing waste, increasing reuse and repair, improving recycling, and retaining resources within local communities across Skye, Raasay and Lochalsh.

Key Aims of the Collaboration

  • Strengthen Partnership Working - Work together rather than in isolation by creating stronger links between organisations involved in circular economy activities across the area.

  • Cross-Promote Existing Services - Help raise awareness of local projects and initiatives by actively promoting each other's services, including tool libraries, food redistribution projects, textile reuse initiatives, charity shops, electrical recycling schemes and repair projects.

  • Share Knowledge, Skills and Resources - Pool experience, expertise, volunteer networks, community intelligence and practical resources to improve the effectiveness and sustainability of existing services.

  • Improve Public Awareness - Increase understanding of circular economy opportunities and encourage residents, businesses and visitors to make more sustainable choices through improved communication and education.

  • Coordinate Community Action - Map existing services, identify gaps in provision, understand community needs and work together to develop solutions to shared challenges.

  • Develop New Collaborative Projects - Design and deliver new projects that address identified needs, particularly where organisations can achieve greater impact by working together.

  • Coordinate Funding Efforts - Explore joint funding opportunities and collaborative funding applications, reducing competition between local groups and increasing the likelihood of attracting investment into the area.

  • Advocate for Rural and Island Communities - Represent the unique challenges faced by Skye, Raasay and Lochalsh when engaging with The Highland Council, the Skye and Raasay Futures Board (SARF), and national policy developments.

  • Support Scotland's Circular Economy Ambitions - Act as a local delivery vehicle for the Circular Economy (Scotland) Act 2024 and contribute to Scotland's wider Circular Economy and Waste Route Map to 2030.
