The Saltire Awards are the Scottish Governments national youth volunteer awards. They celebrate, recognise and reward the commitment, contribution and achievements of young volunteers in Scotland, aged between 12 and 25.

Skye and Lochalsh CVO administer the Saltire Awards for the Highland Third Sector Interface in Skye, Lochalsh and Wester Ross. If you want to register for the Saltire Awards you can do it online at www.saltire.co.uk or you can contact SLCVO Volunteer Officer on 01478 612921 or email info@slcvo.org.uk.

There are four levels of awards designed to help young people celebrate their volunteering journey. The Challenge; The Ascent; The Approach; The Summit.

Challenge Awards

The Challenge award is an award for volunteering in a one-off event to get a taste of volunteering. This is a great way to see if it’s for you and make a difference to your community. You can start a team with friends or classmates or join one that’s already organised in your local area. Taking part in these one- off events will build your team-work skills and help make a difference to your community or an organisation by raising funds. You will also be awarded for your commitment to the event by an award.

Approach Awards

Approach is for when you reach 10 hours & 25 hours of volunteering. If you are ready to give volunteering ago or are currently volunteering. The Approach gives you the recognition for the regular volunteering you undertake with the organisations you are volunteering with.

Assesnt Awards

The Ascent is taking volunteering to the next level. You will receive the Ascent awards for 50, 100, 200 and 500 hours. You will be able to record your achievements, training and new skills you will have gained in your personal online journal. This will keep them handy for any University, College or Work applications.

Summit Awards

The summit is to recognise volunteers who have gone above and beyond expectations. If you have completed 200 hours and have exceeded expectations, volunteers can be nominated by their organisation for this level of award.

Meet Cally our Saltire Ambassador

Ambassadors have the opportunity to further develop their skills through being involved in all aspects of the Saltire Awards. This will mean helping with the promotional and publicity activities through to helping to make decisions about Summit Award nominations and taking part in local advisory groups.
