Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) Grants Programme
SNH can offer grant assistance to projects which support the protection and improvement of the natural heritage, and which help people understand, enjoy and care for it. Grants are available to a wide range of potential applicants, including formally constituted community groups. There is no upper limit on the value of awards, although most grant awards are between £250 - £10,000. Rates of support are usually up to 50% of total eligible project costs, although community groups can receive up to 100% funding, and monies can be paid 'up front'.
Contact local SNH staff for advice and to discuss your proposals. Phone 01478 613329 or visit the SNH website
Skye, Lochalsh and Wester Ross Children's Fund
The Children’s fund provides grants for children of needy or deprived families up to and including age 18. The area covered by the Fund consists of the Districts of Skye, Lochalsh and Wester Ross. Applications are confined to children normally resident in this area, but if our resources permit applications for urgent help in respect of children living in adjacent areas may be considered.
Not more than £75 shall normally be granted in respect of any one child at any one time and no child/ children shall be assisted in consecutive years; there must be a gap of at least one year between grants. Grants must be specifically for the needs of the child or children as such, and not for the family as a whole. Help with items such as rent arrears, fuel bills, cookers and washing machines, etc will not be accepted – even though a child /children would be incidental beneficiaries.
Grants will in the main be provided for:
-
Equipment for a child with special needs/ requirements
-
Essential clothing and footwear
-
Short holidays – preferably of an educational or cultural kind
-
Other items deemed desirable
Applications for grants must be made on the Fund’s approved application form and will only be accepted from a person of good standing acting on behalf of the child/children concerned – such as Social Worker, RSSPCC Inspector, Health Visitor, Community Nurse, Clergyman, official of a recognised voluntary organisation etc.
Applications cannot be accepted direct from the families concerned.
If an application is accepted and approved, the cheque for the grant is usually made out in the name of the person making the application, They, in turn, are responsible for spending the grant and producing the receipts, etc, from the supplier of the goods confirming that the money has been correctly spent on the intended items. No cash is to be given directly to the families concerned.
