Responses to the Crofting Bill

Responses to the Crofting Bill
Back

27 November 2009

Roseanna Cunningham MSP has published an analysis of the responses to the draft crofting bill, with a revised bill expected to be put before parliament before Christmas.

A healthy total of 422 written responses were received, reflecting the array of opinions on the topic. Those responses, combined with those made at public meetings, have now been analysed.  Click here to read a summary of the analysis online.

The responses showed support for the suggestions of making the Crofters Commission more accountable and for taking steps to tackle absenteeism and neglect. However, there was less enthusiasm for a requirement that houses built on land that has been decrofted must be used as a main residence (click here to see previous article).

A revised bill is currently being drafted and should be available shortly
