Customers, Users and Clients

Whether your Third Sector organisation is a small community group or a larger not-for-profit company run as a social enterprise, you will have a special relationship with people who:-

  • access your services
  • take part in your activities
  • supply services to you
  • are members of your group

Those people who access your services and activities free of charge are your target clients or users. They are often the same people as your membership and the very reason that your community group was set up in the first place. Customers are usually the people who pay to access your services.

Involving these very important people in the planning, managing and evaluation of your activities or services is crucial to your success. It will help make sure that your group is meeting their needs and continues to do so.

Involving your users can include:-

  • gathering their feedback and comments on a particular issue
  • including them in decision making (perhaps as a member of your committee)
  • getting them to evaluate your services or activities
